Update from the Co-Founders

Hi Everyone,

So many exciting things have been happening at On Guard Headquarters [which is still all online, but we are working on it :)]! We have a few announcements we would like to share with our Corrections community:

  1. Save the Dates! The 5th Annual On Guard 5k will be on May 7th, 2017 which is the last day of National Correctional Staff week. And Our Second Annual On Guard Conference will be on March 31st, 2017. Our conference in March 2016 filled up FAST, this year we are moving to a larger venue but make sure you keep a look out for registration to open!
  2. We are very excited to announce that Northeastern University (NU) has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to study the causes and effects of officer suicides within the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. NU has reached out to On Guard and we are going to assist the research in any way possible. Please let us know if you would like more information about the study, you can also learn more at http://huntnewsnu.com/2016/10/nu-professors-to-examine-correctional-officer-suicides/
  3. As some of you may know, we had to discontinue our family support groups due to lack of attendance, but thanks to our awesome Community Outreach Coordinators Jen and Michelle, we are on the right path to starting them back up again. If you would be interested in attending a family support group meeting please contact support@onguardinitiative.org to join our mailing list so you can be notified when the meetings start again.
  4. Request for Volunteers! On Guard is always looking for volunteers who are passionate about mental health and Correctional staff and who want to make positive change in the community. Attend a monthly meeting, share your stories, help out at events, really any involvement from our community is welcome. If you would like to get more involved with any of our committees or events, please contact Bryanna or Julie.

Thank you everyone as always for your support, we have some really exciting announcements coming up in the next few months, so stay tuned!

Stay Safe,

Bryanna & Julie
